Are you a fan of self-help/advice books? What has been your favourite one?
I am unsure if this is classified as “self-help”, but there is one book I have read recently that really spoke to me. The book is “Limitless Life: You Are More Than Your Past When God Holds Your Future” by Derwin L. Gray. It was a book that I read as part of a study with Proverbs 31 Ministries.
The book talks a lot about the labels people put on themselves, and how that doesn’t have to be your truth going forward. Here is a quick snippet from the foreword:
“If things as mislabeled they can create unhelpful boundaries, false limitations. If you label yourself a failure, you limit your chance for success. If you label yourself as weak, you limit your strength. If you label yourself a disappointment, you limit your ability to see that people appreciate you-or that God appreciates you.”
I enjoy the book immensely and it had a lot of great advice for living your best life.
What is something you know that you could teach another person if given the chance?
As a mention in a previous post I am more of a Jack of All Trades, Master of None. I know a little bit about a lot of things, but I don’t consider myself an expert of anything. That being said I think people could learn some things from me depending on what they are looking for.
I have become pretty proficient at creating and updating Facebook pages for various things. Some of the Facebook pages I currently have include my childhood church, a ministry for my current church, and the newest page I just created for my blog. You can check that page out here: https://www.facebook.com/kissmycat80. I just started it, so it’s still a work in progress!
Everyone is an expert in something. Tell us three things you’re an expert in.
Noun – a person who has special skill or knowledge in some particular field; specialist; authority
Adjective – possessing special skill or knowledge; trained by practice; skillful or skilled (often followed by in or at)
This is a hard question. I don’t really consider myself an “Expert” in anything. I fall more into the category of Jack of all Trades, Master of None. I know a little bit about many different subjects, but I don’t see myself as an expert. That being said there are a few things that I am REALLY good at, so let’s talk about those.
Loving my cats – It’s pretty much impossible to not love them. I don’t have any human children (yet) and Janie and Jax are my children. They both have unique and different personalities and they bring me so much joy and comfort. Here are a couple pictures of my babies:
Procrastination – I have always been awesome at waiting until the last minute to get things done. Whether it was homework or chores or buying birthday cards, I am really awesome at putting stuff off.
Coloring – I used to do lots of artsy stuff when I was younger, but then I got away from it for a while. Recently I got back into coloring. I find it is a great stress relief technique when my anxiety is flaring up and I like being able to choose what colors to use and what the final picture will look like. Here are a couple of my latest creations:
Maybe someday I’ll be a real expert in something, but for now I’ll stick to what I know.
I don’t believe in re-doing something I already did well before. When I first started my blog I wrote a post about exactly who I am and I still think it was really good. If you would like to read that you can find it here: https://redsoxliz1980.wordpress.com/2013/09/19/who-am-i/.
That may have been written almost 2 years ago, but it still rings very true to me.
The second part of the question is “why I am here?”. I always want to write more. I always want to share more and interact with people more. It seems like sometimes life just gets in the way and I can’t get myself in gear. I am hoping that joining Blogging 101 and completing the assignments will help me to get in a rhythm of regular posting.
I am also participating in Photography 101 on my other blog, which is a photo-blog. I consider myself an amateur photographer and I enjoy taking pictures. You can check out that blog here: https://picturesbyliz.wordpress.com/.
I welcome your feedback, general comments, questions, and constructive criticism.
Hi folks. I just wanted to check in. I am sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I have been battling some anxiety and depression issues lately. I keep telling myself I want to write, but I seem to be getting stuck in my head and not able to get anything out. My goal for April is to post at least 3 times a week (more if I can). Hope everyone is doing well. Look for new stuff soon!\
Sorry I have been MIA lately. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to write more and to try and post to both of my blogs at least 2 times a week. Thanks for reading and checking out my pics. Wishing everyone a Fantabulous 2015.
Do you work well under pressure when it’s crunch time?
It’s pretty much the only way I work. I am a procrastinator to the core and then rush to get everything done at the last minute. It was especially bad when I was in school (high school, college). I would always put off my homework til the last minute, even more so if it was a big paper or project. Somehow when I knew time was running out it was easier for me to sit down and focus and get things done. However, I graduated 2nd in my class in high school and with a GPA no lower than 3.71/4.00 in my college endeavors (I have one Bachelor’s and two Master’s). So I think it’s safe to say that it’s worked out alright for me… 🙂
Okay, so here is a funny story. When I was a little kid I was convinced that mince pie was “mints” pie. I wanted some so bad that I tortured my grandmother all day to give me some, even though she said I wouldn’t like it. Eventually she gave in and gave me a taste. Of course she was right and I have never had it again. To this day I actually don’t know what is in mince pie, but I think I’ll stick with the pumpkin pie thanks!
Pumpkin spiced flavored everything: can’t get enough OR enough already!
I am definitely on the side of can’t get enough. I love Pumpkin Spice everything. I was so happy when Pumpkin Spice coffee came back to the local Dunkin Donuts. I have already had my first slice on pumpkin pie. I even tried the Pumpkin Pie Coolatta from Dunks. I saw an ad earlier for Pumpkin Spice Hershey Kisses and thought “I need to try those”. Basically, by the time Thanksgiving rolls around I’ll probably turn into a giant pumpkin. 🙂
There are so many good smells that come with autumn, most of which are associated with food. Whether it is the Thanksgiving turkey, a pumpkin pie, or a mug of hot apple cider, everything smells delicious. Another autumn smell that I particularly enjoy is the smell of fall air. The air just smells different in the autumn. It’s that cool, crisp smell that you missed all summer. I also really love the smell of burning wood, like that which comes from people starting to use their fireplaces as the temperatures continue to drop. Autumn might be my favorite time of year… winter, not so much.
